Entering a philatelic competition is not for every collector, but there are many who enjoy the challenge and the opportunity provided to arrange the collection in coherent order. One collector who, over the years, has firmly grasped the exhibiting nettle is Graham Winters FRPSL by producing entries in each of the competitive classes.
In his display to the members of the Royal Philatelic Society London on 23 March he provided examples of exhibits in sixteen classes, starting with his first entry of the Ceylon King George VI Pictorial Issue, prepared for the Ashford (Kent) Junior Stamp Club when he was 12 years old.
Graham demonstrated his enthusiasm for competing by exploring the opportunities offered by just one of the classes – Picture Post Cards. Using a selection of cards, he showed that these are not only attractive but also readily available and relatively inexpensive.
It was a ‘wonderful and educational display’, commented Lillian Swift FRPSL giving the Vote of Thanks, providing ‘an exceptional variety of material’.
