Fancy postcards come in many different techniques. We've already talked about porcelain postcards, aluminium postcards and embroidered postcards. Today, my subject is none other than postcards with hair!

Surprising real hair postcards!

Yes, you read that right. In the first half of the 20th century, this new type of postcard appeared. Either on a drawing or on a photo, a small amount of natural hair was added to give a more realistic impression. This hair was glued, sometimes sewn, before being sent to the recipient of the postcard..

It seems that this technique is typically feminine, as I couldn’t find a model with a man with natural hair. For women, on the other hand, there was no shortage of creativity. Short or long hair, embossed or in spectacular chignons, not to mention every possible natural colour, you’ll find lots of different styles on Delcampe. At this point, let’s not forget the bows and other accessories that could be clipped into the hair. !

In terms of price range, given the creativity and hard work that goes into these fancy postcards, prices can go up to a few dozen euros. They sell for between €15 and €45 on average..

The result is astonishing and can make a truly original collection of old postcards. Want to discover other postcards with hair? You’ll find them on Delcampe, the collectors’ marketplace.
