While looking through Delcampe's postcards category, I came across the illustrator Jean de Preissac. Working in a style close to that of cartoonists, Jean de Preissac's postcards are intended to be humorous.
Very little is known about Jean de Preissac. He was not a member of the de Preissac family, which died out at the end of the 19th century. His postcards date from the middle of the 20th century and are sometimes very impertinent and retrograde compared with today’s view of the world. Jean de Preissac uses and abuses stereotypes, much to the delight of postcard lovers.
His favourite themes include fishing, alcohol and proverbs. All in all, Preissac’s collection must include a good hundred different designs, but the cards don’t come at a staggering price, so it’s easy to afford this complete humorous collection.
