At the Royal Philatelic Society London meeting on 2 May, Graham Winters FRPSL showed how his passion for golf has led to a Large Gold exhibit. Moreover, he explained how, with astute choice of material, that exhibit in the Open Philately Class at London 2022 had been transformed from one that initially achieved a more lowly bronze medal when first shown as a Thematic entry.
Using the more familiar aspects of philately, namely stamps, miniature sheets, postal stationery, postal markings, meter marks, printed envelopes and cards, supplemented by an array of objects and ephemera linked with the sport, an award-winning eight-frame entry has been created.
It had been a ‘tutorial in Open Philately’ commented John Stimson FRPSL giving the Vote of Thanks, adding he had really enjoyed the presentation in which Graham had brought together the many aspects of golf with a fine touch of humour.
The Society’s plaquette and certificate were presented to Graham by Simon Richards, FRPSL, Vice President of the Society.
