POST Luxembourg’s March 2025 issues

First association stamp for “Een Häerz fir kriibskrank Kanner” asbl, which is celebrating 25 years of working alongside young cancer patients and their families, not to mention providing administrative and psychological support. The association also collects donations, some of which are used to fund research into childhood cancers.

Another association in the spotlight,, the « Patiente Vertriedung » non-profit organization dedicated to upholding patients’ rights. It brings together some twenty associations that inform patients of their rights and duties, and advise and assist them with any questions or problems relating to health, care and social security.

The third association in the spotlight, « Œuvre Vie Naissante » non-profit organization, is celebrating its 50th anniversary. This association helps women who decide to have their child despite an unwanted pregnancy. This assistance includes medical, psychological, material and legal advice and support. Every year, between 350 and 400 young mothers are supported by « Vie Naissante ».

When it comes to remembrance, POST Luxembourg first of all remembers an important Luxembourg religious tradition, the Octave pilgrimage, in honor of the Virgin. This tradition dates back to December 8, 1624, and is now celebrating its 400th anniversary. The pilgrimage is called “Oktav” (Octave) in reference to its original 8-day duration. Today, the Octave festivities last two weeks and take place between Easter and Ascension Day. Since 2008, the Octave of the Virgin has been recognized as part of Luxembourg’s Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Another ancient anniversary is being celebrated by philately, that of the 150 years of the municipality of Mertzig. Before becoming Mertzig, the municipality was Martiaco as early as the year 842, making it one of the oldest villages in Luxembourg. The area was then separated into Mertzig-Haut and Mertzig-Bas before being unified in 1874, and Mertzig is now celebrating the 150th anniversary of this reunification.

POST Luxembourg also pays tribute to its police, an institution that is over 200 years old in Luxembourg. In this case, the stamp celebrates the 25th anniversary of the merger between the Luxembourg police and gendarmerie. Congratulations to these forces of order, close to the people, who bring security and stability to the Grand Duchy. POST Luxembourg also takes this opportunity to celebrate the 15 years of the “Policemusée” (police museum) where you can discover its history and its equipment.

Finally, the last stamp in this March issue is dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the inaugural flight of the “Feierwôn” hot-air balloon.. This balloon was the first to fly under the Luxembourg banner, delighting fans of this mode of transport..

These issues are now available for sale on POST Luxembourg’s philatelic e-shop.
