There is a wealth of material that can be collected from the Channel Islands, as was perfectly demonstrated by the displays presented to the members of the Royal Philatelic Society London on 9 January. The occasion was the 75th anniversary of the Channel Islands Specialists’ Society, several members of the society including its President, David Laurillard, providing a varied and fascinating insight as to why these islands offer so much to collectors.
From the early mail and markings to the stamps following ‘postal independence’ in 1969, from the period of Occupation during the Second World War to revenues and postcards, the material on display clearly showed that there are so many aspects of Channel Islands’ philately to enjoy.
Giving the Vote of Thanks, James Podger FRPSL, commended those who had founded the society back in 1950, and the many members who had contributed to the displays, providing a ‘superb range of material’.
Following the sad news of the death of the President of the Royal Philatelic Society London, Michael Roberts, on Christmas Day, the meeting was advised that the Vice President, Simon Richards FRPSL, would now be President, remaining in that position until the Annual General Meeting in 2027. Simon presented all those who had given displays with a certificate of appreciation.
