For its second issue of the year, POST Luxembourg is spoiling us with some very pretty and colourful stamps on committed themes.

A first stamp pays tribute to the 75th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, who was born in Luxembourg and was one of the founders of the European Union thanks to the Schuman Plan presented on 9 May 1950 to the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This plan provided for the creation of a supranational body in the field of heavy industry and brought together France, Italy, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg as early as 1951 to found the ECSC and only six years after the end of the Second World War.

Another stamp pays tribute to the Schengen agreements on the occasion of their 40th anniversary. It was in fact on 14 June 1985 that the agreements concerning the free movement of people and goods between the signatory countries were signed in this village in Luxembourg, on the border with Germany and France. Today, 29 countries are part of the Schengen area.
2025 also marks 25 years of the reign of Grand Duke Henri. To mark the occasion, POST Luxembourg is issuing several stamps bearing his effigy : Two fairly classic stamps featuring the Grand Duke and his wife and an incredible embroidered stamp bearing the letter ” H ” capital crowned, the Grand Duke’s initial.
Another personality is highlighted in this May 2025 broadcast, namely Marguerite Mongenast-Servais who was heavily involved in social and political movements in the early 20th century. She was an important figure in the feminist movement in Luxembourg, campaigning, among other things, for women’s right to vote. She was secretary of the Socialist Party and involved in numerous social projects for young people, in particular the women’s scout movement. Alongside her political commitments, she also wrote under the pseudonym Ysiem.
The third personality to be honoured is Jean-Philippe Bettendorf. This 17th century Luxembourger was a member of the Jesuit order and expatriated to Brazil. He was one of the founders of the Maranhao mission and was rector of the Jesuit college founded there for 30 years. He was deeply attached to the indigenous people of Amazonia and defended them against the colonists.

For the other stamps, POST Luxembourg has chosen to highlight its heritage. Historical first of all with a special EUROPA series dedicated to national archaeological discoveries including the Roman theatre at Dalheim and the < em>Roman villa at Schieren. But also its environmental heritage thanks to the showcasing of the LUGA, an open-air exhibition on the theme of gardens and agricultural projects in the broadest sense of the term.
Speaking of heritage, we can’t avoid referring to the stamp on the Osaka World Expo, also highlighted in this interesting May 2025 issue !
How would you like to get your hands on these various stamps? They are for sale on the postphilately.lu website!
