Presentation of the book by Dimitris Papitsis : The LARGE HERMES HEADS of GREECE
At the end of last year, I invited you to discover the book by Stavros Andreadis, LARGE HERMES HEADS - PRINTING AND SHADES. This book is above all a color chart with a very large number of high-definition photographs (1,144) of the different shades of color of all the issues of the large Greek Hermes head, but without any further description...
Article written by Louis Fanchini from l’Académie
The LARGE HERMES HEADS of GREECE – Deciphering these magnificent classical stamps, just published by Dimitris Papitsis before last summer, is the essential complement to the Stavros Andreadis color chart. This beautiful new 221-page full-color book, available in English, is also lavishly illustrated. It gives detailed explanations of all the values of the twelve issues of the large Hermes head (according to the classification of Michael Tseriotis). It also takes us through all the subtleties of this marvelous classic stamp, describing its origins, its manufacture, its plate flaws, its incomparable “control numbers” errors, its falsifications… It also provides the bibliography needed to go into more detail on each of the topics covered. This new book will be useful not only to those new to large Hermes head, but also to advanced collectors, who will find an up-to-date summary of knowledge about this marvelous classic stamp.
Dimitris Papitsis is a young Greek philatelist living in Seattle in the United States since several years. There, he works in high technology and uses his knowledge of new technologies (high-definition scanning, databases, artificial intelligence, etc.) to help recognize and classify large Hermes head stamps. For several years now, he has been sharing the results of this new approach through conferences and articles and is now sharing his discoveries in this beautiful book.
A more detailed description of this new book is available on the website: https://largehermesheads.com/.
